Software Developer

Imagine….you’re working as a Software Developer in an experienced agile team.
You’re developing our next-generation DAM (Digital Asset Management) platform, Dash, which we are building from the ground up using microservices in the back-end with an Angular front end. Dash is revolutionising how SMEs manage their digital assets (image and videos, etc) to massively reduce the time it takes, by using automation and a fanatical attention to the UX.

You’re confident, gaining new skills and inspired by collaborating with talented colleagues to create intelligent software products for our clients.

We support you to work in the way that suits you best, so you’ll have the option to work flexibly, whether that’s remotely or in the office.  When you’re working from home, it's no problem, because the company’s forward thinking, flexible approach to remote working, makes it an absolute breeze! When we meet in person, you’ll be sitting with your new team in an office located on the 9th floor with stunning views of the sea and South Downs.

If you’ve been searching for a Developer role in a dynamic company...you've found it.

Who we are and what we'll offer you

Bright is the company behind Asset Bank and Dash. We are an established agile software company and Digital Asset Management (DAM) specialist based in Brighton and we are proud to work with over 900 global clients including 20 FTSE 100.

We offer Digital Asset Management solutions which help brand managers, marketers and digital asset specialists organise, control and share their images, videos and other digital files.

Our offices are based in the vibrant North Laine area of Brighton, but given recent circumstances, the team has been working remotely and is transitioning to a hybrid model.

To make remote working a success, we've focused strongly on creating good communication channels and still have daily check-ins, lots of online meetings and use a variety of tools to stay connected.  We’ve been working hard to retain our company culture to ensure our teams feel connected to Bright and we’re putting the same emphasis on work/life balance, fulfilling, productive and enjoyable work - just as we did before when we were office based.

We offer a range of great benefits including a supportive & collaborative work environment, 25 days holiday, flexible work hours, income protection and monthly wellness contribution.  In normal times, we have company funded outings, monthly lunch club, treats, and drinks after 4pm on Friday.  We are doing as many of these things virtually and will revive others when we can. We’re particularly proud of our profit share scheme that ensures every member of the team benefits from our success.

Our supportive leadership style means you get to make your own decisions and take responsibility for your own approach to work. As a result, we have very motivated, committed and energetic people who can make a real difference to what we do and how we do it.

Check out our meet the team video, website & Glassdoor page to get a flavour of who we are.

What you'll be responsible for

You will be responsible for building, testing, and deploying the backend services for our Dash application, along with our other software developers.  You won’t be required to be responsible for the frontend JavaScript (Angular) application, but we’re not going to stop you getting involved if you’re interested!  You will take an active part in product and code design discussions, and work closely with UX and frontend developers to ensure a scalable, high quality system is delivered to our customers.

Who we're looking for

This role will be perfect for you if:

  • You like working in a cross-functional, agile product team, in which everyone is 100% committed to making the product a success.
  • You are interested in lean-startup and lean thinking in general.
  • You take pride in the quality of your work and in producing clean, well tested code.
  • You have a passion for new technologies and applying them in intelligent ways.
  • You work well in a team, and enjoy working with others to come up with new ideas or identifying things that can be done better.

Experience and skills

  • Experience in Java, Kotlin or a similar back-end language.
  • Energy and enthusiasm for working with other developers collaboratively in an agile team.
  • A passion for developing inspiring software applications using modern technologies.
  • Familiarity with front-end JavaScript frameworks such as Angular a bonus.
