Show thumbnails for DOC, DOCX, PPT, PPTX and HTML files

It is possible for Asset Bank to generate thumbnail and preview images from the first pages of all the listed document types above.

DOC, DOCX, PPT, PPTX

On Asset Bank versions prior to 3.1555 see *.
To change Asset Bank so that it creates the thumbnails for the document types you need to run some/all of the following SQL command against the database:
UPDATE FileFormat SET ConverterClass='com.bright.assetbank.converter.DocToJpgConverter' WHERE FileExtension='doc';
UPDATE FileFormat SET ConverterClass='com.bright.assetbank.converter.DocToJpgConverter' WHERE FileExtension='docx';
UPDATE FileFormat SET ConverterClass='com.bright.assetbank.converter.PptToJpgConverter' WHERE FileExtension='ppt';
UPDATE FileFormat SET ConverterClass='com.bright.assetbank.converter.PptxToJpgConverter' WHERE FileExtension='pptx';
It is possible to also enable multipage previews but there are some important considerations if you wish to do this.

PPS & PPSX

To change Asset Bank so that it creates the thumbnails for thePPS and PPSX file extensionsyou need to run the following SQL command against the database:
INSERT INTO FileFormat (Id, Name, Description, FileExtension, AssetTypeId, IsIndexable, IsConvertable, IsConversionTarget, ThumbnailFileLocation, ContentType, ToTextConverterClass, ConverterClass) VALUES ([NextAvailableFileFormatId], 'PPS','Powerpoint slideshows','pps',1,1,0,0,'thumbnails/powerpoint_icon.gif','application/vnd.ms-powerpoint', 'com.bright.assetbank.converter.PptToTextConverter', 'com.bright.assetbank.converter.PptToJpgConverter');

INSERT INTO FileFormat (Id, Name, Description, FileExtension, AssetTypeId, IsIndexable, IsConvertable, IsConversionTarget, ThumbnailFileLocation, ContentType, ConverterClass) VALUES ([NextAvailableFileFormatId], 'PPSX','Powerpoint 2007 slideshow','ppsx',1,0,0,0,'thumbnails/powerpoint_icon.gif','application/vnd.ms-powerpoint', 'com.bright.assetbank.converter.PptxToJpgConverter');
Replace [NextAvailableFileFormatId] with the next available FileFormat ID. You can find out the last used ID by running the SELECT query immediately below, then use the next available number for the INSERT statements above. So if the result of the SELECT command is 804, use 805 for the INSERT statements:
SELECT MAX(ID) FROM FileFormat;
(you will need to enable IDENTITY INSERTS for the FileFormat table when inserting to SQL Server and disable them after, using the following commands before and after the INSERTS above).
SET IDENTITY_INSERT FileFormat ON;
SET IDENTITY_INSERT FileFormat OFF;

HTML

HTML files preview images requires Asset Bank to be hosted on a Windows Server and you need Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0 or above installed on the server for this feature to work.
To change Asset Bank so that it creates the thumbnails for the HTML types you need to run the following SQL command against the database:
UPDATE FileFormat SET ConverterClass='com.bright.assetbank.converter.HTMLToJpgConverter' WHERE FileExtension='html';
Additionally you need to add the following system location to your system path variable:
<tomcat home>\webapps\asset-bank\WEB-INF\manager-config\win-tools\htmltools
Replace <tomcat home> with the path to your tomcat installation (and replace asset-bank with your webapp name if you changed it during your install).

Restart

After making these changes you will need to restart Tomcat or your Asset Bank webapp and regenerate the thumbnails for the relevant assets to see the changes take effect on existing assets.
