FTP Upload

Versions of Asset Bank earlier than 3.89 require the use of FTP to bulk upload.

Step 1 -Transferring the files to the server

Before you can start a data import, you need to FTP the files to the server. If your browser supports FTP then you can click on the link 'Use your browser to transfer the files'. This will open an FTP connection to your 'Bulk upload' directory on your Asset Bank server - simply drag your zip files, directories or individual files into this window.

If your browser does not support FTP then you will need to use an FTP client to transfer the files: for example, on Windows, you can use Windows Explorer. Click the link ‘Show help for using Windows Explorer to upload your files' to find out the FTP details.

Once you have transferred the files, be sure to click ‘refresh this page' so that the zip file or directory will be reflected on the page.

Step 2 - Choosing your file, entering the metadata and beginning the import

If you uploaded a zip file of assets then you should see the name of that zip file in the dropdown labelled ‘Zip file'. (If it is not shown then click the link ‘refresh this page', or click the ‘Refresh' button in your browser).

If you uploaded a directory of assets then you should see the name of that directory in the dropdown labelled ‘or directory'. If you uploaded a number of files, not in a directory, then you should see ‘Top-level' as an option in this dropdown.

Select the zip file or directory from which you want to import the assets. Please note that you must select one or the other, not both.

Enter the metadata that will be applied to ALL of the assets that are imported. It is recommended that they are given the Metadata Status 'Incomplete' so that you can use the 'Batch update' facility later to enter specific metadata for each asset.

When you click 'Start import' the import process will begin and you will see a page showing the progress of the import. You can leave this page (for example to visit other areas of the Asset Bank) and come back to it later by clicking 'Bulk upload' in the menu.
