Hopefully you might have noticed the new ITV logo by now? This was but one element of their recent major rebrand.

We know a little bit about this as we helped them create a new brand asset management system to ensure successful roll-out and usage of the brand.

At Asset Bank we develop and implement both standard and made to measure Digital Asset Management software for clients. The term Digital Asset covers everything from images to videos to powerpoint presentations and our software provides complete digital management of all these assets.

One of the most popular assets that our clients need help with is the storage, management and sharing of images.

The latest release of Asset Bank supports storage of original files in Rackspace Cloud files in addition to the already supported storage in Amazon S3.

Asset Bank.

In our latest Asset Bank ‘quarterly’ release we dropped support for Java 5 (installed on the server), so if you host your own Asset Bank and want to upgrade it to version 3.1370 or above you need to upgrade Java before upgrading Asset Bank.

Java 5 was released almost 10 years ago (back in 2004) and since then versions 6 and 7 have been released, bringing improved performance, new features and greater developer productivity. Dropping support for Java 5 enables us to benefit from this, and build high quality features more quickly.

If you host your Asset Bank with us you don’t need to do anything, we are managing the upgrade of our hosting platform.

Last year, Microsoft themselves celebrated the death of IE6 when usage in the US dropped below 1%. Shortly after usage in the UK also dropped below 1%. Here at Asset Bank we hung on for another year, but we’ve finally decided to officially drop support for IE6 when developing new functionality.

How do you share your assets with people outside your organisation or supplier list, for example press contacts, without them logging in to your Digital Asset Management system?

The answer is through our new Publish Lightbox feature.

Publish Lightbox allows users outside of Asset Bank to review assets and their metadata and choose to download some or all of them.

Follow the story from photography of an image, application of the photographer’s metadata, purchase and upload into a Digital Asset Management system. See how it is licensed, managed and utilised until it is eventually archived…

If you are interested in integrating Asset Bank with a Content Management System (e.g. a company intranet) so that it can be used to quickly find and insert an image for a news article, then this is possible via our CMS integration. (Please note that this is an Enterprise Feature.)

How it works

Your developers would insert a button into your CMS that will call Asset Bank in CMS mode (see Fig. 1.). This mode will show Asset Bank with the permissions of a specified user group (to ensure only relevant assets are shown) and will have the ‘Download’ button replaced with a ‘Select for CMS’ button instead.

If you want to ensure that sales staff are using the latest slides, messaging, facts and figures, then this will be worth reviewing. In addition to controlling the materials that are used, Presentation Builder also gives new and existing sales staff a head start as sets of presentations will be readily accessible, complete with Wizard Style interface and the ability to cherry pick relevant slides from lists of options.
